Project: Sanctuary
Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary is a safe haven. A home to monkeys and lemurs who have been rescued from humans, by humans. The residents come from a variety of traumatic circumstances, including unregulated zoos, laboratory experimentation and the exotic pet trade. Their stories are heartbreaking. The peaceful lives they now enjoy is hopeful beyond words, and a testament to the kindness that humans are capable of. The sanctuary’s mission is to offer its residents freedom from fear. A home where monkeys can live in safety, with the freedom of choice and the opportunity for exploration and social interaction. They are given all the creature comforts they need, and also the ability to make decisions and control events that affect their lives. For the past year, I have worked alongside the incredible caregivers and residents of Story Book Farm and have been making a series of portraits that capture the essence of these magnificent beings.
